KATHY HYSAW
Actress, THE VAGINA MONOLOGUES
On participating in Vagina Festival 2007:
My participation is mainly due to help educate and bring awareness to those that have been in the dark for far too long. I am a survivor of sexual abuse. We are all survivors one way or another.
About Kathy Hysaw:
Having lived in various areas of the country ranging from New York to Puerto Rico to the Deep South, Kathy Hysaw was born of humble origins in the mist of Brooklyn, New York. Her constantly changing environment enabled her to cultivate a strong connection with her emotions. This connection proved to be her most powerful tool as she developed an interest in acting.
She has spent a period at the City University of New York, City College with a concentration in communications. Kathy's early film career included a role in "Bamboozled" (Lee) produced in New York City, and continues to study her craft. Studying under Trudy Steibl, Kathy has realized drastic measures were needed to jump start her career. She has also appeared on stage in Gospel Extravaganza, as well as promotional work for American Express.

VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN >
At least one out of every three women around the world has been beaten, coerced into sex, or otherwise abused in her lifetime — with the abuser usually someone known to her. Violence against women and girls is a universal problem of epidemic proportions.

V-Day's 2007 theme Reclaiming Peace seeks to make the connection between the worldwide anti-violence work of V-Day activists with our collective desire for peace and an end to armed conflicts. “We are saying that if a government supports the use of force, weapons, violence as a method of control and dominance, this models and gives license to the same kind of behavior at home,” stated V-Day Founder/Artistic Director Eve Ensler.
