Exhibiting:
vagina vérité®—an unabashed exploration of the plain, ordinary, mysterious matter of vaginas

Medium:
digital photographs
Dimensions: 93" x 59"

On participating in Vagina Festival 2008:
The conversations that emerged from working on, and exhibiting, the vagina vérité® v-portraits* gave birth to Vagina Festival.

I'm honored to be part of this stimulating, inter-disciplinary, provocative, fun, meaningful, conversation-generating collaboration, Vagina Festival.

Artist Statement:
Alexandra Jacoby is a self-taught painter and photographer. vagina vérité® has been her primary artistic and personal occupation since the project was conceived in a conversation with a friend in 2000 about whether they liked the way their vaginas looked. She's up to 75 v-portraits for the book.

Jacoby is not a vagina expert. Through her photographs and companion web site of vagina explorations, she seeks to provide a collective mirror, to spark conversation about self-image, intimacy, sexuality and identity—to bring into focus the value of our individual experiences and expression.

* The v-portraits are in fact vulva portraits. The project began when a friend of mine asked me whether I liked the way my vagina looked. vagina vérité® is my response to my friend [who thought there was something wrong with hers].
