Presenting:
To Have and To Hold

On participating in Vagina Festival 2008:
This piece intimately and creatively allows for exploration of women's attitudes regarding pregnancy and childbirth, intimacy in relationships, and the issue of choice. This play forces you to examine your core beliefs on what it means to hold another's life in your hands. Every scene leaves you questioning who you are as a woman with decision-making power or who you are as a man nurturing or combating that power. This is a play of hope, despair, and confusion in the lives of three very different women. Every woman on stage shares her unique story of pregnancy through various communal events. This is a raw look at those women endowed (or cursed) with the gift of birth.

About Lindsay Shields:
I am an imaginative, spontaneous writer and performer who has a deep respect for the arts. I see possibility in everything around me, drawing inspiration for my writing from my observations of the world. I see myself as an artist for social change, encouraging people to seek solutions to their troubles within themselves. I thrive on working with communities (participants and spectators alike!) to transform and expand their thinking through the medium of performance. I prefer collaborative settings where a pool of artistic talents can be drawn from to create original, thought-provoking, societal-shifting art.
