catherine owen Poetry/Prose Presenting: Double Baby: One Portrait (in pieces) of the Young Mother/Artist On participating in Vagina Festival 2008: This 20 minute spoken word piece combines poems and prose excerpts from my 1995 book Her, my 2007 essay "Other is the Longest Part of Mothering" and my in progress creative non-fiction work A Collision of Seasons all about being a teenage mother and artist. I would like to open up a discussion about the difficulties and triumphs of being both a mother and a practicing artist, particularly when the mothering experience is liminalized by poverty, youth and other challenges.
